US Senate Committee to Debate Post Patent Grant Litigation

Amazon’s ’1 Click’ patent under Reexamination

At the request of Peter Calveley, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is re-examining Amazon.com's patent for online shopping, which was granted for the invention of allowing registered users to buy items with a single click of their computer mouse.

Calveley, a New Zealand actor, was upset about a slow book delivery from Amazon, and used his blog to raise the $2,520 reexamination fee, claiming that a patent from March 1998 for a system called "Digicash" disclosed the single click concept. Read the rest of this entry »


Too late for RIM, Supreme Court Rejects Automatic Injunctive Relief

PCT Applicant’s Guide Updated to Record Restrictions in Foreign Filing of Patent Applications Relating to National Security

In the PCT Newsletter No 5/2006, reference is made to a new footnote to be added to the PCT Applicant’s Guide (Annex B1, Israel) that clarfies that direct filings of PCT applications with the International Bureau in Geneva are under the same restrictions regarding National Security as applications filed with the Israel Patent Office as the PCT Receiving Office. Israel Clothing Company for the Larger Woman “Matim Li” (Suits Me), sues competitor “Crazy Line” for Unlawful Use of Trademark in Internet Links

In addition to generating and displaying search results based on objective criteria of relevance to the search term and importance of the website, Google, Yahoo and other search engines allow advertisers to display adverts and links to web sites on the user’s screen in response to keywords. This service generates hundreds of millions of dollars a year to search engine providers.

The acceptability of such practices is questionable where the keywords sold to paying advertisers are registered trademarks of other organizations, and recently, Israel Clothing Manufacturer “Matim Li” that serves the larger woman, sued competitor “Crazy Line” for using her name as a keyword. Apple Corps Trademark Infringement Charges Against Apple Computers Rejected

The British High court has rejected Apple Corps claims that Apple Computers has infringed their trademark. The music publishing company owned by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono – John Lennon's widow, and the estate of George Harrison, shares a similar looking logo to that used by Apple Computers.
