Given Imaging has announced that they and Olympus have reached a settlement on all patent infringement issues. Apparently, Olympus will pay Given imaging 2.3 million dollars. The remaining terms of the settlement have not been published, but it is understood that the two companies will cooperate henceforth on future developments regarding the endoscopy pill.
Given Imaging is an Israel company that has developed a camera and power source encapsulated in a pill, that is designed to be swallowed and to enable viewing of the digestive tract as it passes through the body until it is eventually excreted. The camera on pill is replacing uncomfortable fiber optic endoscopy in many applications.
