JMB, Factor & Co. Hosts Seminar on IP in Japan

In conjunction with the Israel Export Institute, the Japan-Israel Board of Trade and the IP at Work Forum of ONO College, JM B, Factor & Co. hosted a seminar on patents in Japan, featuring leading Japanese Patent Attorney, Teiji Miyagawa, managing partner of Miyagawa International Patent Attorneys.

After words of welcome from representatives of the various sponsors, Mr Muyagawa gave a brief overview of the Japanese patent process and clarified the grace period in Japan, the requirements of inventive step, the status of English language applications and other peculiarities of the system. He went on to cover Accelerated Examination, contributory infringement and parallel imports.  I (Dr Factor) gave a brief and humorous comparison of Israel and Japan, and explored the fascinating similarities and parralelisms between Shintoism and Judaism.

The event marks the start of a series of IP lectures that JMB, Factor & Co. are hosting this year. Next month’s event will focus on patenting in Europe.
