On 24 April 2009, The Supreme People’s Court of China a statement on their website, titled as follows: “Opinions on Several Issues Regarding Intellectual Property Judgments under Current Economic Situation” (Opinions). The Opinion defined and modified a series of judicial policies regarding intellectual property in the light of the current economic situation and noted the need for courts to strengthen their protection of patent rights; to cultivate and expand technological innovation capacities and to actively promote self-innovation. Additionally, the Opinion emphasized the need to regulate the market and to maintain fair competition by strengthening commercial brand protection, and accelerating development of a brand economy. The Opinion reiterates the Supreme Court’s current effort in strengthening judicial protection of well-known trademarks, tightening control over judgment of trademark authorization cases, strengthening the judicial enforcement against unfair competition and strictly cracking down on counterfeiting and pirating. China is an important market, competitor and subcontracting manufacturer for Israeli companies.
