Gilead Sciences Inc. has announced that it will sue Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. over the Israel drug manufacturer’s plans to make a generic version of Atripla, for treating HIV. Teva is seeking FDA approval for a generic version of the drug, which has annual sales of about billion. The drug is a combination of three older drugs: Gilead’s Emtriva, Gilead’s Viread and Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Sustiva.
Gilead already has an ongoing patent lawsuit against Teva over HIV treatments.
