The IP Factor

This evening, JMB, Factor & Co. together with ONO’s IP at Work initiative headed up by Dr. Shlomit Yanitzky Ravid, held an IP Seminar focusing on cleantech.

After words of introduction and an overview of the ONO College by Dr. Yanitzky Ravid, we were honoured with a presentation by US Attorney, Jeffery Rothenberg of the Cleantech Group – Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti P.C., a US IP firm http://www.hrfmlaw.com/ that publishes a quarterly Clean Energy Patent Growth Index that is widely quoted by the main newspapers. Jeff summarized trends in Cleantech patenting in the US in various fields such as fuel cells, wave energy, wind power, tide energy, geothermal, solar, alternative fuels, etc.

Following the presentation, we were honoured with a second guest presentation by Leon Harris and Barry Plotkin of  MA Ventures Ltd, who gave some tips about fund raising for entrepreneurs.

Unfortunately, my partner Jeremy Ben-David was ill and so I substituted for him, and presented on patenting strategies for first filing and for filing abroad.

The 40 or so participants included a nice mix of inventor clients, investors and students of ONO who will be attending a WIPO sponsored IP Seminar in Geneva on the same topic next week. – As part of our commitment to the community, to the environment and to education, JMB, Factor & Co. is subsidizing the travel costs for the students in memory of Basil Hyde, a patent attorney who worked for JMB & Co. a few years back, who sadly contracted cancer and passed away before his time. Basil was interested in students, so we feel this is a fitting tribute.
