The name ‘Mig’, in cyrillic, was filed as a trademark in Israel back in 2001, in class 16 covering printed matter, book binding, newspapers etc. the mark is Israel trademark 138834.
A second organization, Media International Group, publishes a magazine called Mig, also in Cyrillic, aimed at the large Russian Ex-Pat community in Israel. The publishers are authorized to use the name for their magazine in accordance with the Newspaper Publication Ordinance.
Despite failing to have the mark cancelled back in 2003, this time around, Migdor LTD managed to have the mark cancelled since it is not in use by the trademark owner, who was also ordered to pay costs of 10,000 NIS to Migdor.
Apparently Mig means instant, and is also reminiscent of the famous fighter planes. Rather a good name for a magazine.
