Obtaining patent protection in Israel is not always plain sailing and there are stringent prior art disclosure rules. Nevertheless, applications may be filed in English. Furthermore, if a claim set has issued in a corresponding application in one a long list of examining countries, there is a procedure for obtaining the same claims in Israel without substantial examination.
One quirk of the Israeli patent system is that there is still no automatic 18 month publication (yet).
After examination, allowed patents publish, and during the next three months oppositions may be filed.
Until now, there was an official fee for the post-allowance publication of about $150. The fee has now been cancelled.
This means that patenting in Israel should be even cheaper!
