Edward Langer Z”L

Ed LangerVeteran Israel Patent Attorney Edward Langer passed away earlier today.

Ed Langer (B.S.E.E., M.B.A., J.D.) was both an attorney-at-law and a patent attorney, and was registered to practice in both Israel and the United States.

In 1973, Ed graduated in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA., and then completed an M.B.A. at the Univ. of Pittsburgh in 1976 before going on to study Law at Duquesne Law School in Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1982.

Ed was admitted to practice before the US Patent Office and the Pennsylvania Bar in 1982, and then immigrated to Israel where, in 1987, he obtained his license to practice before the Israel Patent Office, making him the 71st person to qualify as an Israel Patent Attorney and one of the 20 longest serving practitioners. Ed was admitted to the Israel Bar in 1997.

In a career that spanned over three decades, Ed has worked in-house in industry, was a partner of Shibboleth, one of Israel’s leading law firms, and then ran his own office.

Ed successfully drafted and prosecuted over 250 US patents for clients including startups, independent inventors, technology incubators, university-affiliated tech-transfer companies and industrial manufacturers.

More importantly, Ed was a mensch. He is mourned by his wife Esther, his children Ruby, Ari and Mira, and by many patent professionals who knew and respected him.
